An Uncommon Christian

"Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless." --II Peter 3:14 David Livingstone wrote in his diary; "I have found that I have no unusual endowments of intellect, but I this day resolved that I would be an uncommon christian."

Today, as in any day, many of Gods' people are good spectators and poor participators. We often are high on intentions and low on deeds, we start well
and finish poorly. Benjamin Franklin once remarked; "Work as if you were to live 100 years. Pray as if you were to die tomorrow." Theodore Roosevelt remarked one day; "I am only an average man, but I work harder at it than the average man." What makes for the uncommon Christian is persistent zeal for the will of the Lord, working at it as though it all depends on him and praying knowing it all depends on God.

There are many Christians who have an interest in their beliefs, the uncommon Christian is working out those beliefs. May we all desire to be the uncommon Christian.

  1. Thank you Pastor Rhodes for the encouragement in this post. I have been mulling over something my Pastor preached Sunday morning. Your post has reinforced and strengthened the conviction I feel in my own life over what Pastor Jerry said. Actually they are Gods words. He preached a message "Heavens Choir" from Rev.5:1-18. In v.8 God say's they will have "...golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints." I immediately felt the conviction of the Holy Spirit, how many of those prayers will be mine? I desire for there to be vials full of my prayers.
I don't want it to be said that I was merely a spectator. I desire to be a participator. I want to work out my faith and be, Lord willing, an uncommon Christian. www.blesseshopebaptistchurch.net

  2. Pastor Rhodes:

Thank You for your words and thoughts written on the,"Uncommon Christian".

When I thought and meditated in my heart on the things you said and wrote in your blog, I was reminded of something that happened reciently that fit very well with with what the Lord used you to help me see in my own life about the key to being an Uncommon Christian.......

Reciently I was priviliged to Preach in a Soulwinning confrence at a church in Arkansas and a sign hanging over the pulpit was the best definition of the Uncommon Christian I have seen in a long while.... the sign simply had 3 words written on it................

    "EVERLASTINGLY AT IT"

Uncommon Christianity... God grant it to ever be so in all of our lives starting with me!

Thanks again Dear Friend and Brother,
